Fridays For Future Canada
Following the hottest summer on record in Sweden since records began 262 years ago, Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg started cutting classes at school in protest for real climate action. And so began Fridays For Future. On Friday, November 2, 2018, a Canadian youth began #FridaysForFuture in solidarity with Greta Thunberg. By Friday, December 7, 2018, there were nine youth groups in Canada striking.
Many youths in Canada are now striking regularly across Canada. On March 15, Greta Thunberg declared a global strike and Canadian youth heard her call and joined the strike in over 75 cities. Canada's national strike is Friday, May 3, 2019. There is the international global Earth Strike for the climate on September 27.
The climate crisis is an emergency. As Greta says, we must obey the science, follow the Paris Agreement and the 1.5C ambition. Youth want adults to solve this crisis now.
